A contemporary romance novel by writer and YouTuber Abby Emmons, "100 Days Of Sunlight" follows 16-year-old poet Tessa Dickenson in the days following a life changing accident that resulted in her losing her eyesight with the strong chance of it being permanent.

Spoilers!

"100 Days of Sunlight" is a sweet summer romance with a main character duo that will steal your heart effortlessly. Emmons’ characters are real and relatable, growing naturally and organically. The story follows both Tessa and Weston over the course of 100 days as Tessa learns to live despite her new disability, and Weston strives to pull her out of the darkness of her mind.

The romance aspect of the novel is refreshingly focused on the pair's relationship and not on their sexual chemistry. The most heated the book gets is a few kisses, which is why it scores so very low on the spiciness scale. It is a charming grumpy meets sunshine story with the typical gender roles being flipped to make the girl the grumpy for a change.

The character development is excellently executed. Over the course of the book the reader watches Tessa blossom like a flower as she is pulled out of her little cage by Weston. Admittedly, the pulling is initially accompanied by her all but kicking and screaming, as she has no desire to leave her safe comfort zone even if it has shrunk down drastically. In turn, Weston is just thrilled that there is someone who sees him first and not his disability.

Plot-wise the novel is a good read. Emmons’ writing style is smooth and polished without losing the quirkiness of the characters. It flows smoothly from point to point bringing the reader along for the ride.

My Rating

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Overall this was one of my favorite reads in the last few years. As I have gotten older it had become increasingly rare for a book to cause me to forget that I am reading and am not in fact there with the character. "100 Days of Sunlight" is one of my favorite books to recommend due to it being perfect for a wide variety of audiences. I fell in love with the characters and their world and look forward to reading more of Emmons books in the future.
